Key Facts

Ceresit GL

Standard Thick-Layer leveling Compound

For 10 - 60 mm layer thickness in one single application

Properties

  • Good ultimate resistance
  • Fast setting
  • Shrinkage-free
  • Especially suited for very uneven substrates

Description

Ceresit GL is a mortar with self-leveling properties and shrinkage-free. Composed of hydraulic cement, selected silica sand and special additives that, when mixed with water, form a self-leveling and smooth mass ideal for achieving smooth and leveled surfaces on concrete floors.

Ceresit GL is recommended for use on mortars, concrete, tile and slabs, natural stone and terrazzo floors, and old substrates with firmly stuck adhesive residues.

If further shrinkage resistance is required, Ceresit GL can be crowned with Ceresit DM, Ceresit DX or Ceresit DX XPRESS without the use of a primer (see data sheet).

The leveling compound was designed exclusively for use in dry interior areas. Do not use it for traffic surfaces exposed to wear.

Step by Step

Substrate preparation

The substrates must be clean, crack-free, sound, dry, and free of substances that may impair adhesion and must comply with the current relevant local standards.

Before applying the leveling compound, pretreat the surface with the recommended primers Ceresit R 777 or Ceresit R 766. For further information, see the technical datasheet.

Proceed to take the levels and place references (“masters”) using Ceresit RS 88. The “masters” are placed at a rate of one for every 3 sq m (10.76 sq ft) approximately.

Mixing

For a 25 kg (55.12 lb) bag, measure and pour 3 liters (0.79 gal) of water in a container. By stirring up, slowly add a Ceresit GL bag.

Mix for 2 minutes, stop the mixing, scrape the walls and the bottom of the mixing vessel and mix for 2 more minutes until you get a smooth mixture free of lumps.

Pour the self-leveling mixture by sections and uniform parts immediately in a given area depending on the expected performance and in accordance with the calculated thickness.

Application

Apply the leveling compound with a toothed squeegee or smoothing trowel to achieve a uniform thickness. Pass a spikes roller repeatedly in both directions. Let it dry for about 5-6 hours for foot traffic, and 24 hours to apply the desired finish.

Note. While passing the spikes roller, it is necessary that the task will be done in maximum 20 minutes after the application of Ceresit GL because the product starts setting.
